INJURY UPDATE

Sime Vrsaljko enters last phase of recovery in Madrid

The defender completed his first training session on Tuesday and has now entered the final phase of his recovery. The Croat is to carry out personalised readjustment sessions and will progressively start training with his teammates.

Šime Vrsaljko trained on Tuesday at the Wanda Atlético de Madrid Training Complex. The Croat underwent surgery on the left knee in Belgium on Feb. 13 under the supervision of Dr Villalón, who represented the club’s medical services. After almost nine months of recovery, the defender has returned to Madrid and entered the final phase of his recovery, where he is to carry out personalised readjustment sessions and will progressively start training with his teammates.

Vrsaljko joined our club ahead of the 2016/17 season. So far, he has played 54 matches for Atleti: 35 in LaLiga, six in the Champions League, four in the Europa League and nine in the Copa del Rey. The Croat was a starter in the 2017/18 Europa League final, which we won. He made his debut for our club on Sep. 17, 2016 against Sporting Gijón. We won 5-0 on the day and the defender played the full match.
