NEW ADDITION TO THE ROJIBLANCA FAMILY

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander joins Atlético de Madrid Ownership Group

The back-to-back NBA MVP and NBA champion joins the club’s ownership group, building on an affinity for Atlético de Madrid that he has already shown by wearing the rojiblanco colours ahead of the announcement.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has joined Atlético de Madrid’s ownership group. The partnership is grounded in shared values: ambition, excellence and the belief that every result must be earned. He said: “I’m excited to officially join Atlético de Madrid’s ownership group. This is a club with a long-standing presence at the top of European football, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of its future.”

Born in Toronto in 1998 and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, he developed his game in Canada before spending one season at the University of Kentucky. He is now the centrepiece of the Oklahoma City Thunder and one of the most accomplished players in basketball.

Gilgeous-Alexander is a back-to-back NBA MVP, 2025 NBA champion and the 2025 Finals MVP. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 31.1 points per game while shooting 55.3 percent from the field, becoming the first guard in NBA history to average at least 30 points while shooting 55 percent or better. He also reached the 30-point and 50 percent shooting thresholds for a fourth consecutive season, a feat matched among guards only by Michael Jordan. He broke the NBA record for most consecutive regular-season games with at least 20 points, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s 126-game mark and extending his streak to 140 by season’s end.

Beyond the numbers, his ability to perform under pressure and commitment to constant growth align with Atlético de Madrid’s values of intensity, pride and ambition. His investment reflects an interest in the club’s long-term vision and international growth.
