21/22 PRE-SEASON

Second pre-season stop: Salzburg

Atleti travel to Austria to face Salzburg on Wednesday in the second friendly game of the summer.

Atleti take on Salzburg at 7.45pm CET on Wednesday in the second friendly match of the summer.

Simeone’s men started pre-season on July 7 before heading for a week-long training camp in Los Ángeles de San Rafael. We then played our first friendly game last Friday against Numancia in the Jesús Gil y Gil Memorial, which we won on penalties after the first 90’ ended 1-1. We’ll now face Salzburg at the modern Red Bull Arena, which was inaugurated in 2003 and can host up to 31,895 spectators.

Our team faced the Austrian league winners in last year’s edition of the Champions League. We won both group stage games, allowing us to reach the last 16. In the first match, played at the Wanda Metropolitano, we won 3-2 as Joao Félix scored twice and Llorente once. At Salzburg, we beat the hosts 2-0 thanks to the goals from Hermoso and Carrasco.

Matthias Jaissle’s side are already playing in official competitions. So far, they have won their two games.

Our squad for the fixture is:

Ivo Grbić, Oblak; Arias, Manu Sánchez, Ricard, Alberto Moreno, Fernando Medrano, Sergio Camus, Montero, Mario Hermoso, Fran González; Riquelme, Saúl, Germán Valera, Javi Serrano, Carlos Martín, Mario Soriano, Sergio Guerrero; Giuliano, Borja Garcés and Camello.
