DURING SUNDAY’S MATCH

Saúl reaches 250 games for Atleti

Our midfielder, who made his debut on March 8, 2012 against Besiktas, reached 250 games during Sunday’s win over Getafe.

Saúl Ñíguez reached his 250th match for Atleti during Sunday’s win over Getafe in the LaLiga opener. The Spaniard played the full game at the Wanda Metropolitano.

A product of our Academy, which he joined at age 13, Saúl made his debut on March 8, 2012 against Besiktas, wearing number 48. He earned his place in our first squad ahead of the 2014/15 season, and five years later is one of our four captains alongside Koke, Giménez and Oblak.

The Spaniard has played 160 games in LaLiga, 26 in the Copa del Rey, 44 in the Champions League, 17 in the Europa League, two in the Spanish Super Cup and one in the UEFA Super Cup. In the process, he’s won so far one Copa del Rey title (2013), one Spanish Super Cup (2014), one UEFA Super Cup (2018) and two Europa League trophies (2012 and 2018).

Well done, Saúl!
