Round of 16 first leg in Milan
We travel to Italy for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 against Inter on Tuesday, 20 February, kick-off at 9pm CET.
European football nights are back, the Champions League is back for Simeone's team. This Tuesday, 20 February, at 9pm CET, the Giuseppe Meazza will host the first leg between Inter and Atleti. Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs will be in charge of the match and will be assisted by Catalin Popa and German Fritz from the VAR.
Our team finished top of the group stage, with four wins and two draws. The draw had left Atletico Madrid's opponents in the group stage as one of the most demanding teams in the world, Inter, who finished behind Real Sociedad in the group stage with 3 wins and 3 draws.
Atleti's last match ended with a 5-0 win over Las Palmas at the Cívitas Metropolitano, thanks to braces from Marcos Llorente and Ángel Correa and a late Memphis goal. Our Italian rivals, meanwhile, did the same by thrashing Salernitana 4-0 with goals from Thuram, Laurato Martinez, Dumfries and Arnautovic.
Both teams have only met in one previous official match: the final of the European Super Cup in 2010, which ended in a 2-0 win for the Red & White side, with goals from Reyes and Agüero.
Since Simeone's arrival on the Atleti bench, of the six matches against Italian teams in the knockout phase, Atleti have won on five occasions. This will be the first time that Simeone and Inzaghi will meet as coaches.
