Quique Sánchez Flores: “We’re still in two competitions; we have to throw ourselves into them”

“We have to draw conclusions from this experience”

After Atlético de Madrid were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League, Quique S. Flores commented that “obviously we were truly eliminated in the Vicente Calderón, with the match against Aris. We had everything in our favour in that match and then we didn’t depend on ourselves. We have the squad to have moved one, but we didn’t do that because of a poor second half against Aris. Now the only thing that we have to do is accept the consequences and forget about it as soon as possible. We hope that the return to Europe will be through the front door and into Champions League. We’re still in two competitions and we have to throw ourselves fully into them.

“We had three clear chances in the first half to have won the match; it was very tough to play in the second. The pitch was in horrible condition and we were facing a difficult, tough team. You can also draw positive conclusions from suffering,
stated the manager from Madrid.

Concerning the result from the Aris-Rosenborg game, on which Atleti was dependent, head coach assured that “when we went into halftime we didn’t know the result, but when the second half began we found out that Aris was winning and we didn’t want to know anything else. We’ll stick to what concerns us. We’d have liked to have moved on and now more than ever we need the supporters to be able to achieve our two goals.

Reyes has had a muscle strain for several weeks and given the weather conditions, it wasn’t the best idea. You have to take into account that we have two very important fixtures in less than a week,”
stated the ‘rojiblanco’ manager.

To finish, Quique said that “we were able to adapt well to the weather conditions, we looked for long passes and stayed away from back passes to De Gea. One acts calmer when you see your players play like that.”
