Quique Sánchez Flores: “We had chances to win the match'
“Koke played excellently and had presence in attack”
Quique Sánchez Flores stuck with the positive part of the game and didn’t hesitate to praise his players’ attitudes. “We played a match in which we attacked quite a bit, but without the feeling that we could finish our chances easily. They made a great effort, we played the entire encounter in the opponent’s half, but without decisive chances. We didn’t create those kinds of situations that could have ended in a goal. In the end the result finished all even,” he highlighted.
The manager acknowledged that “one could have imagined how we were going to play before the match. Although I have to point out that each player’s characteristics are different. You can’t demand the same things from everybody. I’m very happy about how Valera and Raúl García tried to get depth. We can’t supplant players, as they all have different characteristics. We dominated and arrived in their area a lot and could even have won on the final play. We’ll continue fighting to reach our goal.
“I see the same thing as everyone else. We played the same way we’ve been playing up till now. You can’t ask the squad for anything else. They worked hard and we’ve only conceded one goal in the last five matches. We created many scoring chances, but we didn’t have that determination necessary to win,” he said.
The head coach stated that “I’m not going to talk about reinforcements. It’s not my place. We have players with other characteristics. We always tried to play well, but the injury to Tiago hurt us, and despite everything we had chances to have earned the three points.”
Quique Sánchez wanted to send a message of optimism to the fans and explained that “we’re sticking with the same idea of earning at least 30 points in order to go into the second half of the season in good shape to grab a Champions spot. We’re four points back and have many fixtures left. We hope to have better luck in the second half and not have any injuries. In the first few matches we had injuries to Kun, Forlán and Godín. Now I hope to be able to count on all of my players.”
