Quique S. Flores takes 19 players to Germany to face Bayer

Asenjo returns to a roster after a seven-month absence

Atlético de Madrid continued to prepare for this Thursday’s match against Bayer Leverkusen. The session, which was the most intense of the week, lasted over two hours, and began with a video of their Europa League opponent. For more than 30 minutes, Quique Sánchez Flores and his footballers viewed the playing characteristics of their upcoming rival in the press room.

The players who were starters against Deportivo stayed in the gym to work out, while the rest of the squad members took the normal practice pitch. After completing a series of running, the whole team continued with the session.

After some ball possession drills, they moved into finishing and a scrimmage on a small-sided pitch. During this practice match, Quique Sánchez Flores tried out several players in the different line-ups. Sergio Agüero and José Antonio Reyes left the session early as a precaution.

On the other hand, Jesús García Pitarch, Sports Director of the organization, attended the facilities in Majadahonda and chatted with the players and the manager, Quique Sánchez Flores.

At the conclusion of the session, Quique Sánchez Flores released the 19-player squad list of players who will travel to Germany to take on Bayer Leverkusen. The biggest news is the return of Sergio Asenjo after more than seven months since the last time we was included on a matchday roster. On the other hand, Ujfalusi, in need of rest, has been left off. Also dropped were Camacho and Juanito through coach’s decision.
