Quique S. Flores: “We were dominating the game, but Racing picked themselves up”

“We created chances, but we have to change the pace”

Quique Sánchez Flores, head coach of Atlético de Madrid, was upset with his team’s loss to Racing. The ‘rojiblanco’ manager said at his post-game press conference that “it was a game with two very different halves. In the first half, we were dominating the match, with a favourable result. We committed two fouls and Racing picked themselves up. They had two counter-attacks and scored on one and that’s how the game ended.”

The ‘rojiblanco’ head coach felt burned by what happened in Santander. “I’ll repeat that Racing picked themselves up in the last five minutes of the first half. We had to have been winning at halftime. We’ve lacked aggressiveness in attack in the last couple of games. We’re creating chances but we have to change the pace. I told the players that at the half, that we had to change the rhythm, but it was too late. I didn’t think Racing played well in the first half, but we partly gave it to them with the 1-1 and then on the second with the 2-1,” he highlighted.
