Quique S. Flores: 'We created the chances to win, but we were denied”

“Koke is brilliant and scored a goal thanks to his intelligence”

Quique Sánchez Flores thinks that his team was unlucky and could have earned the win against Sevilla. “It reminded me of other matches. We created enough chances to have won, but at times it seemed like we could have lost. It was a frenetic match with a great effort from my players. We had more chances than out opponents, but were denied in front of the goal. Our supporters really pushed on the team well. It was a nice game for the spectators, bad for the managers and complicated for the players,” he highlighted.

Concerning the performance of home-grown player Koke, Quique pointed out that “he asked for the substitution; he had some cramps. He couldn’t last any longer on the pitch. He was coherent with the ball. He’s brilliant and scored a goal thanks to his intelligence. He’s not a patch to cover up a spot. He’s a player who has earned it. He’s worked really hard to get to where he is.”

The ‘rojiblanco’ manager also revealed that “I spoke with Forlán in the dressing room. I know that he came off angry, but we needed another player with more energy. He understood it well. He felt good about his play, but we’ll have to do something to break his and Kun’s goal-scoring droughts. They’ve had chances, but not luck.

To finish, he touched on the goals conceded by the team and said that I’m concerned about the goals we gave up, as they didn’t come from clear chances from the opponent. Our opponents are getting goals from nothing. We’re looking over everything to fix it. De Gea, when he came into the clubhouse, told me that every shot on goal is going in.”
