Quique S. Flores: “These three matches resemble this team more”
“To make it to Champions we can’t concede many goals”
Quique Sánchez Flores was happy about the win over Málaga. The team had given off good sensations and closed out a good week of results after the win over Deportivo and the draw and solid play shown against Bayer Leverkusen. The manager acknowledged that “I expected an intense and angry Málaga. It was tough for them to play from behind on the scoreboard almost the entire match.”
With respect to whether the team had overcome the weeklong crisis after the losses to Espanyol, Aris and Levante, the coach stated that “we don’t have to take for granted that things are just the way they are. Things change. We have always kept the faith in spite of those results. It was a bad dream, but we continue working and the main thing was to get ourselves back together mentally. These last three matches resemble this team more.”
The ‘rojiblanco’ manager was pleased because “we’ve improved in our combinations, in play and in defence. To qualify for Champions we can’t concede many goals.”
Concerning the benching of Forlán, Quique Sánchez Flores said that “we repeated with Forlán what we’d done with Reyes in Leverkusen. I just wanted to give him some rest.”
He praised his team because the three goals came off set pieces. “Strategy is very important. We’ve really improved in that aspect. It helps you win games and change the development of the matches through strategy.”
