Quique S. Flores: 'There is a big collapse in the squad”
'We didn’t deserve to either win or draw”
Quique Sánchez Flores wanted to show face after this team’s loss to Levante. The head coach didn’t hesitate to assure that “it’s an inexcusable loss. We’re going through tough times of crisis and what we have to do right now is manage this crisis. We can’t stop and we have to put ourselves back together. We had bad moments last year and were able to turn the situation around.”
The manager of Atlético de Madrid continued to analyze the state of his team and explained that “there’s a big collapse in the squad and we have to manage it. I’ll tell the supporters that we’re going to react and we aren’t going to go back to our old ways. Now, more than ever, I can’t leave my players’ sides. I love them and I’ll stick beside them. In spite of the poor form, we need them there, supporting the players.”
Concerning the supposed scolding he gave his players at the half, Quique assured that “I’m not going to reveal anything that I say in the dressing room. Although I will say that I always speak clearly and openly. I’m behind my players and we’re going to react, I’m sure of it.”
The head coach also broke down the substitution of Assunçao, saying that “he was playing very intensely and had been marked by the referee. He had shown him a yellow card and was running the risk of being sent off.”
With respect to the match result, Quique stated that “we didn’t deserve to either win or draw. Although I’ll clear up that I can’t get depressed. We’ve gone from heaven to hell in one week and now we have to get better. This is football and now we have to manage the crisis. We lost to Espanyol and Aris because of mental mistakes. Today we lost for footballing reasons,” Quique Sánchez Flores wrapped up.
