Atletico Madrid defeated Austria Vienna to certify their place in the second round as group winners. Miranda, Raul Garcia, Filipe and Diego Costa got the goals in a game dominated Diego Pablo Simeone’s men.

 The Calderon returned with a magical night of Champions League football. The scene was set in the best club competition with a lively crowd who were gunning for qualification to the knockout stages. Neitherteam wanted to make any mistakes and the first minutes of the game were cagey. Atletico gradually took a hold on the game.

Atletico are on fire it it didn’t take them long to get off the mark from one of their famous set pieces. Koke, the sniper from the Manzanares swung in the corner with pinpoint accuracy to the head of Miranda. The Brazilian defender did not manage to connect the first time but his desire, devotion and blind faith to put the ball into the goal, resulted in the first goal for Atletico.

Raul Garcia and Diego Costa both had good chances to double the lead but were unable to beat Linder in the Vienna goal. Then the Austrian team had its first chance in but Murg was unable to beat Thibaut Courtois in a one-on- one.

Raul Garcia punished the visitor for not taking their chances in the 25th minute with an unstoppable header that Linder had no chance of stopping and immediately afterwards the number nearly got the third of the night with a magnificent volley that Austrian goalkeeper managed to put out for a corner. To make matters worse for Vienna, Luis Filipe made it 3-0 before the break sending the fans in to raptures.

The second half began with the Óliver coming on for the injured Adrian. Atletico continued to attack constantly after the break with goals insatiable Diego Costa, who was in search of a goal, Guilavogui came on for Tiago and Cristian Rodriguez replaced Koke before Diego Costa got the fourth and final goal of the night.

The game ended in a party atmosphere as is becoming usual at the Vicente Calderon. The Atletico fortress see another uneaten record continue and see qualification sealed to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
