The game started off intensely and both teams were disputing possession. Diego Costa had a great chance to score the first, but Neto made a fine save in the 16th minute.
However the deadlock didn’t last long. Ángel Correa scored our first goal of the league season. He received a brilliant pass from Antoine Griezmann to smash it home. Just a few minutes later, Neto made another terrific save to deny Costa.
The second half started off as intensely as the first one and Rodrigo scored the equalizer in the 56th minute.
Vitolo, Gelson Martins and Thomas Partey came on to try to give our spark to our attack and our boys kept looking for the winning goal, but it didn’t come and our league opener at Mestalla ended in a 1-1 draw.
