Mr. Enrique Cerezo: 'There’s no problem with Quique’s relationship with Forlán'

The President refuted the rumour that Forlán’s been offered to Real Madrid

Mr. Enrique Cerezo refuted the information that was released in a media outlet regarding the possible offering of Diego Forlán to Real Madrid. The President explained that “I’ve always been honest with all of you. When there’s been something, I haven’t had any problems speaking about the matter. In the case of Forlán, there is nothing there. We don’t know anything. Whoever has any question should talk to the journalist who reported it so that they can clear up the information that was published.”

The head director of the organization from the Vicente Calderón also spoke about the relationship between the Uruguayan and his manager and said that there are no problems between Quique and Forlán. The relationship between both of them is correct, normal. I suppose that it’s the same as in all jobs, where there may be some friction, but that doesn’t mean there’s an argument going on. All players always want to play; I don’t know any that doesn’t want to, even if they’re not feeling well. We’re trying to get him back fully fit. We’ve designed a recovery programme for him and right now he’s completing that. I’m sure that the relationship between them is perfect. When he starts scoring goals again, all of this will come to an end. He’ll be back at the same level as in other years. He’s very good physically and with the same problems as the other footballers who played in the World Cup.

“We’re used to everyone talking about Forlán, Agüero… The bothersome thing is that this news, which is false, can distract the team from what is important, which is on the athletic front,”
asserted the President.

Mr. Enrique Cerezo played down the small crowd at the Copa del Rey clash and stated that “9,000 people came. It was a Wednesday at 9 pm and, technically, the qualifying tie was pretty much clinched, so I think that the attendance was fine. Less people have come at other times. It’s not normal, but fewer supporters tend to come to the first qualifying round.”

After a very tough start to La Liga, Atlético continues its path in this competition with the need to win the upcoming matches. Enrique believes that we can’t slip up in the next few matches. We’ve faced all of the teams that might be fighting for us for the top four spots. From here on out we have to beat Osasuna, Real Sociedad and Espanyol. The players know it, they understand it, and I hope that they achieve it.”
