Miranda extended his contract until 2016
Atletico Madrid and Joao Miranda have reached an agreement to extend the contract of Brazilian defender for two more seasons. The centre back’s contract was due to expire with the rojiblancos on June 30, 2014 but it will now run until 2016.
Since coming to Atletico Madrid, the defender has won the confidence of the coach and has been instrumental in the conquest of the last two European titles in Bucharest and Monaco, recently playing for the Brazilian national team. Miranda has played 88 matches with the red and white so far in the season and a half long that he’s been with our club, scoring five goals, one of them in the final of the European Super Cup against Chelsea.
The Brazilian centre back expressed satisfaction with the contract extension. "I'm very happy. I have been working hard to earn this renewal and I think it is a very good agreement for both parties. In Atletico I feel great, like I am at home. Madrid is a city that I love. I am very happy here."
Miranda thanked the affection of Atletico fans and praised their role in the team's history. "The fans are the great strength of this team. They always play for us."

Jose Luis Perez Caminero, manager of Atletico Madrid, stressed the importance of the agreement between the club and the player. "The club has always been clear that we wanted to extend the contract of this player. He is a defender that gives security to the rear and is noted for its positioning and coolness. His great performances for us have made it clear that we should go for his renewal."
