Enrique Cerezo presented Mandzukic to the media in a crowded VIP Lounge and then the player took the field to greet his new fans.
Mario Mandžukić wore the Atlético colours for his fans, which amounted to about 8,000 followers who defied the hot evening in Madrid. He was presented first to the media in a crowded VIP Lounge by President Enrique Cerezo, and then took the field to show his new team’s kit, with the '9' on his back, and give a few touches to the ball in front of fans avid to see him play in real matches.
The President presented the player, of whom he said, "He comes to Atlético de Madrid in the prime of his career. He has scored 47 goals in two seasons in Bayern Munich, which helped his team achieve a Champions, a European Super Cup, a Club World Cup, two Bundesligas, two German Cups and a German Super Cup. Mandžukić represents in himself all that is good and characteristic in a forward with guarantees. He has a top scorer instinct, mobility within the box and a powerful shot. He’s a fighter who’ll soon become a reference for our team and our fans. Internationally, Mario has also given ample examples of his scoring abilities. In his 52 matches with Croatia, he’s scored 15 goals. In the recent Brazil World Cup, the striker scored two goals that had him nominated as best player of the match, while in the Euro 2012, he shared the title of top scorer of the tournament".
The President continued pointing out that "Mario, today you start a new challenge in your life. We’re convinced that we’ve hit the mark with you and your adaptation will be quick and easy. You’re a footballer who, due to your profile, responds to the idiosyncrasies of the player we’re looking for. We know you’re a winner, a player with personality and used to win titles. I’m sure that you’ll bring many in the coming seasons. From here, I encourage you to strive to achieve our goals. With your signing, the team has given an important qualitative leap. Welcome, Mario to your new home".
Then, Mario Mandžukić thanked "the President for his welcome. I'm very happy to be in Atlético de Madrid and very grateful for this welcome".
He comes from Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga Champion, to Atletico de Madrid, the League Champion. His objectives are, "I come from a great Club, Bayern Munich, and came to another big Club, Atlético de Madrid. I’m very happy to be here, in a Club that was the League champion last season. I know the club and the players quite well. I think they’re great players and I'm very happy, especially with the coach".
