Luis Javier García Sanz, born in Badalona (Barcelona) on June 24th, 1978, has international experience. In addition to playing with Barcelona, Valladolid, Toledo, Tenerife, Atlético de Madrid and Racing in our country, he’s won the Champions, the European Super Cup, the FA Cup and the Community Shield with Liverpool, he’s played wirh the Greek Panathinaikos and the Mexican Puebla and Pumas UNAM. He’s been an international with Spain 18 times.

Luis García has experience outside of Spain because he’s played in England, Greece and Mexico. For the former Atlético, playing in Atlético de Kolkata is "a different experience because it’s played in a short period of time. It was important for me not to be away from home too long. I’m eager and excited to start a new and different experience".

It will be a Super League with few teams but very competitive, with quality players coming from other leagues. Luis García indicates, "They have brought world-class players to give the Indian Super League more grandeur. A draft of the best of the India has been made and they want the competition to grow and be a showcase to the world. This is country of cricket and they want football to attract many fans".

After going through many teams such as Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid or Racing in Spain, and the experience in Mexico, it’s a challenge for Luis García to play in India. "It’s different. A few months ago I had decided to retire because I missed the family and being at home. Once this decision is made - a difficult one for a football player - I missed the day-to-day, and I take it as a challenge and as a way to put an end to a football stage. With hope and eager to face it. It’s more of a personal challenge than a football one".

In terms of the objectives of Atlético de Kolkata, Luis García says, "Because of the investment that has been made in the team, the first objective is winning the title. It’s the first time that this Super League is created and the aim is to reach the final and be the first to conquer it".
