THE YOUNG ATLÉTICO TALENT TAKES STOCK OF 'HIS' YEAR

Lucas Hernández: "2014 has been a great year"

The French defender will not forget this year. He played the pre-season and the tour of the United States and Mexico with the first team, became a regular in Simeone’s trainings, made his debut in the Cup and premiered in the League in San Mamés.

Lucas Hernández will never forget this 2014 that is about to end. The French centre-back, just 18-years-old, who plays for Atlético de Madrid B, has become a regular in the first team’s daily trainings, with which he played the pre-season and the United States and Mexico Tour. Simeone relies a lot on one of the young talents that’s come through our ranks and that is why he made him debut officially with the red and white shirt in the two legs of the King’s Cup against L'Hospitalet, where he added 180 minutes of play and showed his tremendous quality. He was also included in several League squads, sitting on the bench in Elche and debuting in the League in San Mamés in the last match of this magical year.

It has been very nice, what better debut than in a stadium as San Mamés and winning like that

The young red and white talent has only thankful words to the trust shown towards him, which ended with his League debut in Bilbao: "I’m very happy with the trust shown by the 'Cholo'. It has been very nice, what better debut than in a stadium as San Mamés and winning like that."

Lucas admits that "2014 was a great year. I did the pre-season stage with the first team, I've been training regularly this season, debuted in the Cup and now my first minutes in the League. Unforgettable."

And to complete a fantastic year, the defender from Marseilles debuted with the French U19, something that fills him with pride: "I love to wear my country’s shirt. I've been called to the different national teams at lower levels, and now I have the chance to play in the U19 and compete next year for the European elite round. The truth is that it has been a complete year."

But Lucas Hernández does not stop at this year. The French centre-back wants more and does not let his guard down: "Of 2015 I ask the same or more than of 2014. You always have to be ambitious." Let’s toast for that.
