Lotina: “Atlético are more comfortable in opposing stadiums and are very dangerous”

“Filipe Luis is playing well again, enjoying himself; it was tough for him to adapt”

Miguel Ángel Lotina, manager of Deportivo, is confident that his players can give their best against Atlético de Madrid. “We’re very mentally focused on giving our best because the match against Atlético is very important and the fans’ support is going to be ninety percent of us maintaining that mentality during the course of the whole game. Giving the best that we have to offer tomorrow in the individual and collective aspects is fundamental,” highlighted the coach of the Galician side.

Concerning this week’s opponent, Atlético de Madrid, Lotina said that “Atlético are more comfortable in opposing stadiums and are very dangerous.” For this reasons, he believes that “Deportivo has to try and make sure the ‘rojiblancos’ don’t cause us damage and, at the same time, try to surprise them.

“Atlético are in good form and have gained some consistency, but now they’re fighting for UEFA, with plenty of options of making it to Europe, and after the inconsistency they’ve had, that’s a good thing,”
he stated.

Returning to the Riazor with Atlético will be Filipe Luis, who was sold to them by Depor last July and who has been getting better with his current team over the course of the season. “Filipe is playing well and enjoying himself again. He had a tough time adapting because playing at Atlético isn’t the same thing as playing at Deportivo because we use different defensive systems. When we went to Madrid he told me: “I have a problem, Coach”. Every team defends differently and there’s a big difference between the way that Barcelona defends and the way that Madrid, Atlético or Deportivo defend,” he commented.
