MATCH PREVIEW | GIRONA - ATLÉTICO DE MADRID

Looking to end the league season with a win

Atlético de Madrid travel to Girona this Sunday 25 May (14:00 CEST) for the final matchday of LaLiga EA Sports, aiming to close out the campaign with a victory.

After a commanding 4-1 win over Betis in our final home match at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano – a result that secured third place in the league – Atlético head into Matchday 38 at Montilivi looking to finish on a high before taking part in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, starting 15th June.

Alongside ending the season with a win, the team is also determined to break a poor run of away form in the second half of the season. In our last nine away fixtures, we’ve only managed two victories – against Valencia (3-0) and Sevilla (2-1) – along with three draws (Real Madrid 1-1, Espanyol 1-1, and Alavés 0-0), and four defeats: Leganés (0-1), Getafe (1-2), Las Palmas (0-1), and Osasuna (0-2).

Girona, meanwhile, have struggled for form in the second half of the season, with just three wins – against Las Palmas (2-1) and Mallorca (2-1) at home, and Valladolid (1-0) away. They have drawn four times (Celta 2-2, Valencia 1-1 at home; Espanyol 1-1, Leganés 1-1 away), and suffered 11 defeats, the most recent coming last weekend with a 3-2 loss to Real Sociedad in San Sebastián.
