8 January 1992 is a date marked on the Red & White calendar. On that day, a boy from Vallecas was born, who joined Atleti at the age of six and who, since then, has gone from strength to strength to become an emblem and living history of our club. Today, at the age of 30, Jorge Resurrección Merodio is the player who has worn the Red & White shirt the most times in official matches. A total of 554 times.
Long gone is that 19 September 2009 when Jorge Resurrección first pulled on the Atleti shirt for the first time with the first team. With the '26' on his back, on that day we began to know the all-rounder player who for so many years has defended and will defend our shield. On the '26' of his Red & White shirt was a name that has already risen to the top of Atleti's history: Koke.
The match against Sevilla will remain etched in a special way in the memory of our captain. Also in the memory of all his family, friends, colleagues and, of course, of all Atleti fans. Since he made his debut in 2009, Koke has learned from players like Juanfran, Raúl García, Gabi, Tiago and Godín the importance of wearing the captain's armband. A list of players who are now legends of our club. Koke has known for a long time what that armband means, what it means to be Atleti. Our captain perfectly represents everything an Atleti boy wants to be when he grows up. Koke is fight, effort, sacrifice, solidarity, courage and heart. Koke is Atleti.
In our club he has won eight titles: two leagues, one Copa del Rey, two Europa Leagues, two European Super Cups and one Spanish Super Cup. Eight titles that make him the second player with the most titles in the history of the club, only surpassed by Adelardo Rodríguez who has ten trophies as a Red & White player. In addition, he has also become a regular in the call-ups with the Spanish national team and one of its captains.
On Thursday October 6, at the Cívitas Metropolitano, there will be a special tribute to our captain for his incredible career to date, which the whole Red & White family will be able to follow live on our official channels.
That's 554 games, Koke, and many more to come!
Congratulations, captain. Congratulations, legend!
