Atleti earned a late 2-1 win at Alavés on Sunday thanks to a Suárez goal. Llorente had scored in the first half.

Carrasco had the first shot on goal of the game as his left-foot strike was saved by Pacheco. After a hard-fought first half, in which we dominated possession, we finally took the lead in the 41st minute through Llorente. The Spaniard advanced with the ball and struck with his left foot from the edge of the box to put us 1-0 up.

Atleti had a couple of clear chances in the beginning of the second half, but we weren’t able to capitalise. Joao Félix came on for Correa at the hour mark, around the time when Laguardia was sent off for bringing Lemar down when the Frenchman was through on goal. We had a massive chance not long after as Carrasco provided an exceptional through ball for Suárez, but the Uruguayan couldn’t beat Pacheco. Lemar then tried his luck from a free-kick, yet the keeper made another save.

Unfortunately, despite all the chances, Alavés equalised via a Felipe own goal with around five minutes to go. It was tough to take, but Simeone’s men didn’t give up. We kept pushing and as we reached the 90th minute, Joao Félix set Suárez up and the Uruguayan placed the ball in the back of the net to send us into delirium and earn us the first win of the year.
