Koke: 'The train passes once in your lifetime and you have to be ready”

“We know that we have a lot on the line against Valencia'

Jorge Resurrección Merodio ‘Koke’ is experiencing a sweet moment in his life. He just signed a contract extension until 30 June 2016 and has gotten playing time in recent matches. The young midfielder held a press conference on Wednesday and acknowledged that he is very happy, stating that “I’m very pleased about the extension. This is the Club I’ve been supporting and playing for my whole life. Being here is a dream come true. It’s my home and I wanted to stay at Atlético. Being and playing with the first squad is the best thing that could happen to me.”

The central midfielder wants to take advantage of the minutes that he’s being given by the manager and assured that “I’m trying to make the most of the minutes I get. The train passes once in your lifetime and you have to be ready. I’m getting involved in the team little-by-little and that’s good. I’m trying to play well and make sure that the coach likes my performances.'

The youngster spoke about the mental state of the ‘rojiblanco’ dressing room and said that “I think that the players are mentally strong. The team was inconsistent in other seasons and moved forward. We’re confident and are going to try and accomplish our goals.”

“The gaffer has prepared for this week the same as in others. We know that we have a lot on the line against Valencia and that we need to win. The squad is training hard and my teammates and I really want to earn the three points,”
he stressed.

The footballer began the season training with the first team, but playing with the reserves. Now he has settled in with the first squad. Koke believes that “you have to adapt to what people are telling you. I’m doing fine with that and I’m happy with the way things have gone for me.”

Koke isn’t thinking about the future and the possibility of the Club signing other players in the central midfield. “I’m young and I have to learn. If the manager sees fit that the best thing for me is to go along little-by-little, then I’ll try to make the most of the minutes I get,” he assured.

With respect to the team’s goals, the central midfielder was prudent and stated thatwe have to be realistic. We’re not having a good season. Now we’re closer to earning a spot for Europa League. We have to take things slowly and then if we can, we’ll fight for Champions League spots.”
