Koke: 'Sevilla is a direct rival; we have to go out to win from the start”

“Being in the starting line-up again would be incredible”

Jorge Resurrección 'Koke' attended to the media after the training session on Thursday 24 February at the Majadahonda Sports Complex. The home-grown talent spoke about his week after getting the start against Zaragoza and his desire to hold onto the spot in the line-up against Sevilla.

“The truth is that it’s been a strange week. They’re talking about me in the press, but now more than ever I have to stay grounded and take advantage of the opportunity. If I end up playing on Saturday it won’t be the first time that I’ll be a starter at the Vicente Calderón, because I’ve done it twice, once against Getafe and once against Universidad de Las Palmas.
Being in the starting line-up again and facing a great team such as Sevilla would be incredible,” highlighted the central midfielder.

Koke’ stated that manager Quique Sánchez Flores “still isn’t speaking about the Sevilla match; I’m working hard to be amongst the ones picked, but he still hasn’t said anything about it.” Additionally, he doesn’t feel that he has an advantage over other teammates in the same position just because he’s an academy player, since “the gaffer plays those who are in the best form; it has nothing to do with the academy; he chooses the best. I’m not going to make a deal about where he plays me; the important thing is to be there amongst the eleven, the position doesn’t matter.”

Concerning the upcoming opponent, Sevilla, he commented that “they’re a direct rival; both teams have a lot on the line, so we have to go out to win from the start. Furthermore, the Cup final is still in our memory and we have a thorn in our side from that match and will try to make up for that defeat.”
