Jan Oblak, 400 games in Red & White
The Slovenian goalkeeper, foreigner with the most appearances and the tenth player with the most appearances in the club's history, expanded his legend as an Atlético player in the game against Cádiz.
Jan Oblak extended his legend as a Red & White player. In Sunday's match against Cadiz at the Cívitas Metropolitano, the Slovenian international became the tenth player with the most appearences in the club's history with 400 games. Our president, Enrique Cerezo, gave the traditional plaque for those players who reach centenary figures with the club. And so he did it for our goalkeeper's fourth centenary as a Red & White.
The Škofja Loka native joined the club on 16 July 2014 at the age of 21. His debut came on 16 September of the same season in a Champions League match against Olympiacos in Greece. The rest is history.
He has won four titles at our club: one league (2020/21), one Europa League (2018), one European Super Cup (2018) and one Spanish Super Cup (2014). In addition to these titles, he also won numerous individual mentions that earned him the distinction of being one of the best goalkeepers in the world: he was part of the 2015/16 and 2016/17 UEFA Champions League teams; the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League; five Zamora trophies (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2020/21) and was named MVP of the season in La Liga in the 2020/21 campaign.
He's the foreigner with the most appearances and the tenth player with the most appearances in the club's history. Jan, who is also the goalkeeper who has defended our goal the most times, is now ahead of only nine other Red & White legends: Koke (591), Adelardo Rodríguez (553), Tomás Reñones (483), Enrique Collar (470), Carlos Aguilera (456), Isacio Calleja (425), Juan Carlos Arteche (421), Gabi (417) and Fernando Torres (404).
That's 400 games for Jan! We hope many more to come. Congratulations captain!
