Falcao & Adrian get the goals (4-0)

Atletico Madrid convincingly beat Racing Santander by four goals to nil with Falcao scoring a hat-trick before Adrian added the forth. The Colombian striker had already become an idol with the fans at the Vicente Calderon and reaffirmed his popularity with today’s display. Atletico continued their good run which they’ll be looking to take in to Wednesdays game against Sporting.

The rojiblancos wanted to see to the unfinished business of the League and they did just that. After a convincing win against Celtic in the first game of the Group Stage of the Europa League, Manzano wanted to keep the momentum going against the Cantabrians.
The first chance came for Madrid via Miranda's head. The Atletico23 got on the end of a Reyers corner but Toño saved well. Atletico Madrid were controlling the game, and after 9 minutes of game the home side went close. Diego threaded a great pass through the defense and Falcao failed to connect with the shot.
Colombia's Falcao stepped forward to score his first for Atletico in the league. It was on the 22 minute mark when the striker combined well with Arda and Reyes before beating Toño with his left foot. Certainly a goal that the Colombia international will remember for a long time.

With the score at 1-0, Racing looked to pick up the pace with Hector Cuper encouraging his men from the sideline but Atletico were firmly in control.
The second goal came in the 33rd minute after Diego was fouled has he got away from Osmar. Falcao stepped up and made no mistake scoring the second from the penalty spot. It was just what Atletico deserved putting in a very dynamic performance and pushing hard throughout the first half. Three minutes later the 'Tigre' looked like he was going to score his third of the game Toño guessed right and denied him his third.
The second 45 minutes began as the first ended, with the only difference being that Manzano had to withdraw Diego who had a minor discomfort.

Although Racing tried, they could not create a chance on goal. Atletico knew they played with the score in their favor and as a result they grew in confidence. Falcao was involved in everything and on the 54th minute he raised the roof inside the Calderon.  After a fine pass from Arda Turan the Colombian found himself one on one with Toño as he coolly lifted it over the keeper to make it 3-0.
As the game went on the pace of play slowed down however Atletico continued to dominate, waiting for an opportunity to add to their score. Adrian who had replaced Falcao, picked up the baton with the youngster heading home the fourth of the afternoon after a pass from Arda Turan. A complete performance and the first 3 points of the season for Atletico Madrid
