147 GOALS AS A RED & WHITE PLAYER

Griezmann, third top scorer in our history

Antoine Griezmann is now on the podium of players who have scored the most goals for Atlético de Madrid. After his brace against Betis, the striker surpasses Campos.

147 goals. That is the number that Antoine Griezmann reached this Sunday with the Atleti jersey. A number that makes him take another step forward in the history of our club. Antoine has been a key player for Simeone since his arrival in 2014. After 308 games defending our jersey, the French striker is already in the top 3 of top scorers in the Red & White history.

Griezmann, who has surpassed the goals scored by Paco Campos between League and Cup, debuted as a scorer with Atleti on 16 September 2014 in the Champions League match against Olympiacos and has put his signature to very important goals such as the first in the history of the Cívitas Metropolitano against Málaga, the brace scored against Olympique de Marseille in the final of the Europa League or the hat-trick scored against Leganés, which will remain engraved in the annals of the club.

For his part, Campos - who scored up to nine more goals in regional championships of the time - was the offensive reference point of Atlético Aviación Club, penetrating as a left-sided inside player. He arrived at our club in 1938 and stayed for nine seasons. The Canarian striker was the first great '10' in our history, adding to his goalscoring ability a dribbling and left-footed dribbling skill. His height, moreover, allowed him to be a reference in the air. As proof of his great importance in the club's history, the image of one of his headers is the one that the players see today as they leave the dressing room at the Cívitas Metropolitano. Likewise, as a subsequent coach of Badajoz, he discovered a youngster who would also become a red and white legend: Adelardo Rodríguez.

Now, in the club's all-time scoring charts, Antoine Griezmann is only ahead of Luis Aragonés, with 173 goals, and Escudero, with 169.

Congratulations and here's to many more goals, Antoine!
