Griezmann equaled Escudero as the second top scorer in our history
The French striker is now only four goals away from reaching Luis Aragonés, who scored 173 goals.
With the goal he scored this Sunday against Villarreal CF, Antoine Griezmann equaled Adrián Escudero as the second Atleti top scorer of all time. 169 goals that our '7' has scored in 357, divided between two stages, from 2014 to 2019 and from 2021 to the present.
Since he debuted as scorer on September 16, 2014 against Olimpiacos, the French striker has scored a total of 120 goals in LaLiga, 30 in Champions League, 13 in the Copa del Rey and 6 in Europa League. Thus, Griezmann has equaled a record that since 1958 only Luis Aragonés was able to reach and surpass, who heads this historical ranking with 173 goals.
Escudero, who played for our club between 1945 and 1958, played 330 games over thirteen seasons as a rojiblanco and scored 150 goals in LaLiga, 17 in the Cup, one in the Latin Cup and one in the Duarte Cup. He scored his first goal against Hércules on February 3, 1946 and his last, against Real Sociedad on May 4, 1958.
For his part, Luis Aragonés, who defended our colors on 370 occasions between 1964 and 1974, scored 123 goals in LaLiga, 22 in the Cup, 12 in the European Cup, 8 in the Fairs Cup, 4 in the Cup Winners' Cup, 3 in the Cup of UEFA and a goal in the International Cup; previous official Intertoto competition in whose 1968 edition our team competed.
