Griezmann becomes top non-Spanish scorer for Atleti in LaLiga
The Frenchman surpassed Rubén Cano, who scored 82 goals during his six seasons at our club.
Antoine Griezmann on Saturday became the top non-Spanish scorer for Atleti in LaLiga thanks to his two goals against Valladolid. With his tally now at 83, the Frenchman has broken Rubén Cano's record of 82 goals, which was set by the Argentine in the late 70s and early 80s.
Griezmann has played 159 league games with our team, scoring 83 goals in the process. In all competitions, his tally now stands at 120 goals, making him the seventh top scorer in Atleti's history.
The Frenchman's first goal in LaLiga for Atleti was scored on Nov. 1, 2014 during a 4-2 win against Córdoba. In the 2014/15 season, Griezmann scored 21 league goals, the same as in the 2015/16 season. In 2016/17, he scored 16 goals. Last season he scored 19 goals and in the current season he has scored six goals so far.
Uruguayan striker Diego Forlán completes the non-Spanish podium with 74 goals.
Moreover, Griezmann earned his 100th LaLiga win with Atleti during the match against Valladolid, thus becoming the player to have done so in the least amount of games (159), surpassing Juanfran's previous record of 162.
