Gregorio Manzano: “If I’m honest, I don’t know which Atlético we’re going to find”
“If we play as we did against Oporto we have chances to win”
Gregorio Manzano, manager of Sevilla, stated that his team is going to give its all at the Vicente Calderón and that he expects a tough match against their direct rivals, Atlético de Madrid. “We really wanted to move forward in the European competition, but we now have to focus on the future. Therefore, we need to earn as many points as possible in the 14 remaining fixtures to reach the other goal that we have in mind. Tomorrow, two great teams that are fighting for the same goal will face off. We’re seventh and Atlético want to take that spot away from us. Therefore the three points are incredibly important. For us, it would be a very important qualitative and quantitative jump in the table, so the match will be quite tricky.”
The head coach acknowledged that, after falling in the Europa League against Oporto, “I’m fine, bothered by the elimination but those of us in professional football have to know how to accept certain things. Now we have to look ahead, be ready for the rest of the championship and face the matches with the certainty that we can win them. Our win wasn’t enough to pass through, but we’re playing well and we have to continue like this. If we do, we’ll achieve more success than failure.”
The Sevilla manager left it very clear that “If I’m honest, we don’t know which Atlético de Madrid we’re going to find. They want to pick themselves back up in front of their fans at the Calderón, a stadium that always pressures you and cheers a lot, and even more so against a direct rival. Anything can happen. We only have one slogan, that if we play the same as we did against Oporto, with the same mentality and going for goal, we’ll have plenty of possibilities to win.”
