EUROPA LEAGUE | MATCH RECAP

Great win in snowy Copenhagen

Atlético started off strongly and had numerous chances in the first minutes of the match.

In a snowy night in Denmark, our side overturned FC Copenhagen’s goal to win 1-4 with Saúl Ñíguez, Kevin Gameiro, Antoine Griezmann and Vitolo's goals.

Atlético started off strongly and had numerous chances in the first minutes of the match. Antoine Griezmann had the best opportunities to score, but Copenhagen’s goalkeeper made brilliant saves to deny our Frenchman.

With their first attack of the match, the Danish side scored the first goal of the night. Viktor Fischer sent the ball to the back of the net. After conceding, our lads stepped on the accelerator and kept creating chances.

Saúl scored the equalizer following a corner kick and 15 minutes later, Kevin Gameiro scored the second. A beautiful triangulation between Griezmann, Lucas Fernández and Gameiro created the second goal, one that was completely made in France.

The second half was similar to the first. Our lads dominated possession and created chance after chance. Yannick Carrasco came on in the 59th minute for Ángel Correa and immediately had an impact as he nearly scored in the 64th minute. Just seven minutes later, he laid off a great ball to Griezmann for our third goal of the night. Vitolo came on in the 69th minute and scored the fourth in the 77th minute.

Gabi was our final sub of the match and after playing in the Telia Parken Stadion, he became the player with the most UEFA appearances for our club.

With this win, our side is one step closer to the Europa League Round of 16.
