The 60,000 spectators who packed the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador saw a show worthy of a final. Italy and Uruguay spared no efforts in a match that both sides looked to win. Astori opened th scoring for the Italians before Cavani levelled things for the Uraguayans. Diamanti gave the Azzurri the lead against before Cavani gpt his second of the match.

In after 90 minutes it was all square a extra time was on the cards. In the added 30 minutes it was the south Americans who looked more likey to win the game but they didn’t have the luck in front of goal.


Muslera and Buffon looked inspired, both saving well but in the end it was the Italians who were more accurate and they claimed the third spot thanks to a 3-2 penalty win.
