OUR LEGENDARY ASSISTANT COACH AND FORMER GOALKEEPER

Germán Burgos receives tribute at the Wanda Metropolitano

The club paid tribute to Burgos ahead of Sunday’s match against Real Sociedad. Koke presented him with a shirt signed by everyone, whereas our President Enrique Cerezo handed him a commemorative badge.

Our legendary assistant coach and former goalkeeper Germán Burgos received an emotional tribute at the Wanda Metropolitano ahead of Sunday’s LaLiga fixture against Real Sociedad.

Koke presented the Argentine with a shirt signed by the whole squad, whereas club President Enrique Cerezo handed him a commemorative badge.

Germán Burgos first joined Atleti in 2001 with the mission of achieving promotion to the top-flight under Luis Aragonés. One year later, our team was back in LaLiga and the Argentine went on to play three seasons at our club. His goalkeeping skills and his personality earned him the love of the Atleti Family, and he returned in late 2011 as Simeone’s assistant coach. After 478 matches, Burgos has won one LaLiga title, one Spanish Super Cup, two Europa Leagues and two UEFA Super Cups.

Once the season ends, the Argentine will follow his coaching ambitions away from the Wanda Metropolitano. Everyone at Atlético de Madrid wants to thank Germán for his hard work and wish him the best of luck in the future.

¡Gracias, Germán!
