Gabi: It's a pleasue and a great challenge to be back at Atlético

Gabriel Fernandez Arenas Gabi, is happy to return to the club which will always be his home. The new ‘rojiblanco’ player in made it clear that he is looking forward to his return.  The new signing told that it will be a personal challenge to play in the team where he was formed as a footballer. 'Atlético de Madrid has had some good seasons recently, culminating in the two European titles won last year, they’ve also had Chapions League football two years in a row, for me is a personal challenge to come here. Atlético de Madrid is new challenge I face with great professionalism and pride. It is a great pleasure to be back at this club,' he said.    After being captain and a major player in Zaragoza, he change of club to Atlético de Madrid was an pleasure for the Madrid midfielder. 'Everybody knows I grew up here and have been Atlético de Madrid my whole life. My dream was to grow as a player and as a person and I think I succeeded. With hard work I have got another opportunity to be a big player and help the club achieve it’s goals. I’m here to work hard for the club,' he acknowledged.    As to whether the Club has changed much since he left four years ago to play in Zaragoza, Gabi said, 'I knew many of my colleagues and almost nothing has changed. It is clear that the club has gradually grown as an institution but the targets remain the same for the club, to be the biggest in Spain.'    Gregorio Manzano has been an important coach Gabi's career and may have influenced his decision to return to Atlético. 'The truth is that Gregory gave me the opportunity to compete in the First Division and that left an impression on me. My decision was taken quite some time ago because I've always wanted to return here. Clearly I have to work hard to earn that trust that I did to make my debut. I know the coach is always good,' he said.    Regarding whether to provide goals from his position in midfield, as was done in the Zaragoza, Gabi said 'it is something I’ve done well with this year in Zaragoza, especially from set pieces and I am very happy with it. I hope I can score goals as I did last season.'    Atlético fans, through the twitter account of Club Atlético de Madrid (@ atm_es), wanted to ask a few question to the new signing. First, what can this new Gabi bring to Atlético de Madrid. 'I come as a very experienced player, with great self-confidence and game by game I’ll try to win everyone over. I will not waste this opportunity that I have earned,' he said.    What do you think about the new project, said: 'It is an exciting project. People who have lived Atlético from the bottom are now leading the team it’s exciting. It been decided by people from inside, who know the club and that's important because it really know what the sentiment of the club is.'    Finally, from twitter he was asked what the collective and individual objectives are for the new season. Gabi said: 'The club deserves to be in the top four of the League, in the Copa de Rey to take the Europa League game by game. On a personal level, being a very important player for this team and working hard to try to meet the collective goals.'
