Forlan shines and leads Uruguay to the final
Beating Peru thanks to two goals from Luis Suarez
Uruguay booked their place in the final of the 2011 Copa America after beating Peru 0-2. Luis Suarez, scorer of the two goals of the match, and Forlan the with Uraguays most assits were the stars in the first semifinal of the championship.
The national side of Oscar Tabarez set out with well-defined ideas and an intelligent approach against Peru. For the Uruguayan coach it was essential to have control of the ball from the first minute to set the tone for the match. Forlan and Luis Suarez were the main men creating chances on Fernandez in goal, while Peru were trying to resist the superiority combined well with Guerrero and Advincula. The first half ended goal less.
The first fifteen minutes of the second half was enough to resolve the tie wit hthe breakthrough coming in the 53rd minute after a move between the two best players for the twice champions. The Atlético de Madrid player launched a superb shot from outside the area that Fernandez could not hold and Suarez took advantage to score the first of the game. Minutes later, Suarez again got the better of Peru from a Pereira pass.
Uruguay awaits their final opponent from the other semi finalbetween Paraguay and Venezuela. Forlan could make history and is very close to beating personal and team records.
