Forlán doesn’t train due to periostitis in his left leg
His countryman Godín does alternative work to rehab his groin strain
Atlético de Madrid continued to get ready for their decisive clash this Sunday against Espanyol (9 p.m.), a direct rival in the battle for European spots. The ‘rojiblanco’ first squad players completed a session which lasted an hour-and-a-half and in which, as almost always, the focus was on the ball. Atienza, Atlético B center back, joined the session with Quique’s team.
The practice began with a classic warm-up and a series of 4v2s while De Gea and Joel did specific work with goalkeeping coach Emilio Álvarez. After this, head coach Quique Sanchez Flores set up two small-sided games during which he had the players work on passing and finishing.
The main absence of the day’s session was Uruguayan Diego Forlán, who has been suffering from periostitis in his left tibia and didn’t train with his teammates. For their part, Godín and Tiago began with alternative work alongside the team physical trainer, Oscar Pitillas, although in the case of the central midfielder, he rejoined the group before the end of the session.
