Forlán doesn’t recover in time for the Cup match against Espanyol
The Uruguayan is out and Reyes will return after a one-game suspension
Atlético de Madrid held its final work session at the Majadahonda Sports Complex which attracted a large number of ‘rojiblanco’ supporters to the last training before the Cup clash against Espanyol. Atlético began with a half-hour video session and then moved to the normal training pitch to continue their work.
Alberto Noguera, Atlético B player, was the novelty in the practice, as Forlán did not work out with the group on the pitch during the first half-hour. The Uruguayan did alternative work with Oscar Pitillas in the gym, as did Tiago, who is recovering from a muscular injury in his right hamstring. Forlán did solitary work with the physical trainer while his teammates completed the session leading up to their fixture with Espanyol.
The team had a varied session in which they mixed physical work with ball work. First they did some ball drills and then played a handball game in which they had to shoot with their head, another game without goalkeepers in a small space which worked on control and passing, and finished up with a practice match on the full pitch. On one team with bibs were: Joel; Ujfalusi, Perea, Domínguez, Filipe Luis; Elías, Assunçao, Mario Suárez, Noguera; Kun and Diego Costa. Without bibs were : De Gea; Valera, Juanito, Godín, Antonio López; Reyes, Koke, Raúl García; Alberto Perea and Borja.
At the end of the session, Quique Sánchez Flores released the list of 19 players who will travel to Barcelona to take on Espanyol. The biggest inclusion in the squad list for the Copa del Rey round of 16 return leg at Cornellá del Prat Stadium is the return of Reyes, who was sent off in the first leg against the ‘pericos’ and sat out his one-match suspension in La Liga against Racing.
Forlán suffered an ankle injury against Espanyol and was unable to play in the first league match of the new year. The other big absence with respect to the last match is Tiago, who was forced to leave last Monday’s game against Racing injured. Also not included on the matchday roster are Juanito and Elías, the latter because his transfer has still not been finalized.
The entire list is formed by the following players:
GOALKEEPERS
13 De Gea.
27 Joel.
DEFENDERS
2 Valera.
3 Antonio López.
14 Filipe Luis.
15 Godín.
