Duel with history at Celtic Park
Our team faces the Scottish side in the matchday 3 of the Champions League.
The UEFA Champions League is back for our team with destination Glasgow. After facing Celta in domestic competition, Simeone's men travel to Scotland to face Celtic on Wednesday 25 October at 9pm at Celtic Park. The referee in charge of the match will be the German Félix Zwayer, who will be assisted by his compatriot Christian Gingert from the VOR room.
Our team will face the Scottish side with the aim of getting another victory that will bring us closer to the last 16 of the highest continental club competition and maintain our unbeaten status in the European competition. For the Brendan Rodgers side will be looking for their first three points after losing 2-0 to Feyenoord and 1-2 to Lazio in the first two games.
The head-to-head record against Celtic is favourable to our club with 4 wins and 2 draws in 6 previous matches played in continental competitions. Our first match against Celtic, in the transcendental semi-final of the 1973/74 European Cup in Scotland on 10 April 1974, will remain in the memory of all the Atleti fans. Then, with a 0-0 draw on Scottish soil against a team that boasted stars such as Kenny Dalglish, Billy McNeill and Jimmy Johnstone, we took the first step towards our first final in the top continental club competition.
In commemoration of this match, we will wear the same colours as on that historic day: red shirt, blue shorts and red & white socks, in the image and likeness of those worn by Adelardo, Irureta, Ayala and Gárate.
