Dominguez: 'We’re looking at the match against Sevilla as a final'
'We want to be up at the top and Sevilla have the same goals as us'
Alvaro Dominguez was asked to appear before the media in the press room of the Ciudad Deportiva de Majadahonda after the match played on Thursday in Rennes. One of the Atletico captains acknowledged that 'the goal gave us a very valuable point. It was a difficult game in a very difficult ground and against a tough opponent.'
The rojiblanco commented that 'the team went to win but came up against a good opponent, which is up top in the French league and in Europe has a long run without losing at home. It was not easy. All teams in this group are difficult and any point is valuable'.
Asked if the match on Sunday is a big test for Atletico Madrid, Dominguez believes that 'yes. On Sunday there’s a lot to play for. The team is aware of this and goes in to the match against Sevilla treating it like a final because we want to be up there, and Sevilla has the same goals as us.'
Dominguez acknowledged that away from home 'we have played some quite difficult games. In Valencia we deserved more, in the Nou Camp they gave us a hiding.
Finally, speaking of his defensive partner Miranda he said 'We understand each other well. He is a great professional, one of the best defenders in the Brazilian league.'
