Diego Forlán will be the UEFA Champions League Final ambassador
Our legend will be the ambassador for the final that will be played next year in our stadium.
The 2018/19 Champions League Final will be played at our home, the Wanda Metropolitano on 1 June 2019. Our legend Diego Forlán will be one of the ambassadors of the final.
As a footballer, Forlán was a star and an Atlético de Madrid legend. His history with the Champions League dates back to 2002, when he made his debut in the competition. In total, he played 55 matches in the Champions League and 17 of them with Atlético de Madrid. For our club, he scored countless goals and an important goal against Schalke in the 2008/09 season. The tie ended in an Atlético win and our club qualified for the Champions League once again, 12 years later.
Forlán had a knack for scoring goals and won the Golden Boot in the 2008/09 season and was the MVP of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He was also a key player in our Europa League glory. He scored the goal in the Anfield that qualified us for the final and later scored in the final to give us the trophy, our first European title since the 1962 Cup Winners' Cup.
