Diego Costa works with the rest of his teammates on arrival in Segovia
The striker apologised at a press conference for his late return
Diego Costa, who joined the team three days late, responded to the media and apologised for what happened. 'I apologise to the people and my team mates', he said before his first training session with the team in Los Angeles de San Rafael.
The striker claimed the reason for the delay to a misunderstanding, but said that once the club got in touch with him, he went as quickly as possible to the capital of Spain. 'As soon as they called, I bought the tickets and came', he said.
During the press conference, the Brazilian striker repeated several times his intention to work for one of the non-EU places in the squad ahead of the season. He also emphasised his enthusiasm for participating in the first official European competition games: 'Hopefully I can play in those games. Which forward or which footballer would not want to play football at a club like this? I will give my best to be on top form', he concluded.
