Diego Costa: 'Kun Agüero and Forlán are great players and I learn a lot from them”

“I’d like to continue at Atlético next year”

Diego Costa has turned into the star of the team in the last two weeks. He scored a hat trick against Osasuna and last week earned another start against Real Sociedad, contributing an assist in the victory. The Brazilian could get another start on Sunday against Espanyol, and stated that I’m working just as hard as other weeks to try and be amongst those chosen. Then the gaffer is the one who decides who plays. I was also playing well at the beginning of the season with a good scoring streak. Things have gone well for me, but Forlán is a tremendous player and could return to the starting eleven at any time.”

The Atlético de Madrid forward doesn’t consider himself to be a starter and wanted to make it clear that “the coach has his ideas. There are changes from one game to another in the starting line-up, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I wasn’t amongst those selected. I’ve worked hard all week, but I don’t feel like I’m the starter.”

The Brazilian knows that he’s young at the age of 22, and still has many aspects on which to improve in his play. “I’m learning other things with respect to those I learned at my previous side, Real Valladolid. I’d like to continue on at Atlético next year, but I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he asserted.

I’m very happy with the ovation I received last week from the crowd. I hadn’t played in a long time and getting that acknowledgement from my fans was really nice, as they felt I played well, and hopefully I can keep this good form,” stated the striker.

With respect to how he’s settled in at the ‘rojiblanco’ squad after his time at Albacete and Real Valladolid, Costa assured that “it’s much harder to play at Valladolid because Kun and Forlán are really good. I’m learning a lot from them, as they’re both amazing players.”

Concerning the final stretch of the championship and the team’s possibilities, Diego highlighted that we have to come out to win on Sunday from the start, and in general take things step-by-step. We have to focus on the match against Espanyol. First we have to ensure ourselves of a Europa League spot, and then we’ll see how far we can go.”
