De Gea: “I’m under contract until 2013 and I’m very happy at Atlético”

“I’m very focused on getting the team into European competition”

David De Gea attended to the media on the morning of Wednesday, April 13, and the Atlético de Madrid goalkeeper took on the rumors that have been circulating and assured that he is focused on helping his team achieve its goal of qualifying for a European competition. I’m under contract until 2013 and the main thing for me is help get the team to Europe. We’re been hearing things for a long time, but I haven’t signed anything. I’m very happy here and there’s lots of league play left,” he commented.

Concerning the possible interest of other teams in Atleti players, the goalkeeper stated that “there are lots of players here who play at a high level, so many other teams would like to have them and the Club has its part in the decision. The important thing is that, right now, nothing is going on and I’m very calm. I have a contract, I’ve been here for a long time, and I hold a lot of affection for the Club. When the season ends, which is when contracts happen, then we’ll talk.”

De Gea wanted to calm down the fans and assured that “I don’t know anything about offers from any other team. I’m very focused on getting the team into European competition, and that’s my main goal. Nobody has anything to worry about right now regarding my contract. We should all be concerned with qualifying the team for Europe, which is what we have to do.”

The Atlético ‘13’ also touched on what can be expected for next season. Everybody would like to have a great squad and I think that we have one this year. Next year we’ll have a great squad with the playing we have; we’re hoping that everything goes better next season than it has this season.”
