Daniel Portillo wins #AtletiChallenge tournament

Club member and volunteer Daniel Portillo won the FIFA 20 #AtletiChallenge tournament, in which eight representatives of the Atleti Family faced off. The young Spanish fan beat Atlético de San Luis player Unai Bilbao in the final.

The FIFA 20 #AtletiChallenge tournament took place on Friday, April 24 as eight representatives of the Atleti Family faced off to see who the king of the football videogame was.

Club member and volunteer Daniel Portillo was the winner as he earned a 3-1 win in the final against Atlético de San Luis player Unai Bilbao. The young Spanish fan will soon face our Atlético de Madrid eSports and Movistar Riders player Andoni Payo.

Our captain Koke represented the men’s first team, Leyci Santos represented the women’s first team, and a female – Sonia Majarín – and male youth player – Óscar Clemente – were our Academy’s representatives. Playing from the other side of the ocean, Unai Bilbao from Atlético San Luis and Atlético Ottawa’s Ben Fisk from also participated in the tournament, whereas club legend Álvaro Domínguez and the winner Daniel Portillo completed the line-up.

The competition began in the quarterfinals. The first match saw Koke beat Majarín 3-1. Our captain then lost narrowly (3-2) in the semifinal against eventual winner Daniel Portillo. The young club member and volunteer had beaten Álvaro Domínguez 2-1 in the quarterfinal. The other quarterfinal games saw Óscar Clemente earn a 4-0 win over Leicy Santos and Unai Bilbao beat Ben Fisk 2-1. Unai Bilbao went on to earn a 2-0 against Óscar Clemente and book a spot in the final against Daniel Portillo.

The club member and volunteer won 3-1 and will soon face the biggest challenge yet: taking on Andoni Payo, one of the eLaLiga’s best players.
