“My team’s intensity and dedication were incredible”
Argentine Héctor Cúper, manager of Aris Thessaloniki, stated after beating Atlético de Madrid (2-3) at the Vicente Calderón, that it was an “historic victory” for his team and that now is the time to enjoy it.
“We’re happy. Lots of people came over from Greece and the excitement and human factor play important roles, beyond strategy. We did what we had to do and we also got the luck we needed, because we went through very tough moments, especially in the second half,” said the coach.
Héctor Cúper highlighted that “the intensity and dedication of my team were incredible. We didn’t have any left to spend. A series of circumstances occurred for us to win the match. That has its value because we were facing a great team. We’re leaving happy. We’re pleased. It’s an historic win.”
Regarding his team’s chances, now that they depend on themselves to pass through to the next round, he stressed that it would be a mistake to consider themselves as already qualified. “There’s still one match left. We have to keep our calm and enjoy this moment and then get ready for the next game. The worst mistake is to believe that something is won before it is played,” he wrapped up.
