Correa, Morata, Koke fire Atleti to important win over Espanyol
Our team beat the Catalan side 3-1 on Sunday to earn three important points before the international break.
Atleti came back from behind on Sunday to earn a 3-1 win over Espanyol. Correa, Morata and Koke got the goals.
Our team enjoyed a great start to the game, collecting several chances to score in the opening moments of the clash. Vitolo had the first big chance following a good team play, but our winger was denied by the keeper. 15 minutes into the match, Morata had a massive chance to score, but the Spaniard’s chip went inches wide. The away side reacted with a shot from Wu Lei which was just off target. And just before the 40-minute mark, they took the lead through Darder. It was tough to take, but we reacted well and equalised in stoppage time through Correa.
Atleti also started the second half well, and early on we had a good chance for Morata, which was saved by the keeper, and also a penalty call that was not awarded following a VAR review. We kept going and found the lead as our number 9 scored his sixth goal in six matches through a fantastic finish. Simeone made his first substitution of the game after 75 minutes, as Vitolo made way for Lemar, and then Costa came on for the goalscorer Morata. In the dying minutes of the clash, our coach brought on Llorente for Correa, and Koke made it three in stoppage time to secure an important win before the international break.
