Atleti earned a key win on Wednesday as we came back from behind to beat Athletic Club 2-1. Llorente and Suárez scored our goals at the Wanda Metropoltitano.
Our team dominated possession from the beginning, getting the ball back quickly and putting pressure on the visitors’ defence. That dynamic lasted for a while, but Athletic Club unfortunately took the lead some 20’ in through Muniain. We reacted well as Carrasco had a shot on goal immediately after, which was saved by Unai Simón. We were shaky for a while after that and struggled to create problems for Marcelino’s side. But we kept at it and found the equaliser in stoppage time through Llorente. Lemar provided the assist for the Spaniard to head it home just before we headed to the changing room.
Atleti started the second half well and were awarded a penalty early on as Suárez was tripped inside the box. The Uruguayan took it and converted to put us in front. Simeone made a double substitution 67’ into the game, bringing Saúl and Correa on for Lemar and Joao Félix. Later, Torreira came on for Suárez. We made our final changes in the last few minutes, when Llorente and Carrasco made way for Kondogbia and Lodi. Athletic Club searched for the equaliser until the end, but we held on to our lead to pick up three key points.
