Champions League campaign comes to an end in Lisbon
Our team lost 2-1 to RB Leipzig on Thursday in the Champions League last 16.
Atleti were unable to progress to the Champions League semi-final as we lost 2-1 to RB Leipzig in Lisbon on Thursday.
After a slightly shaky opening few minutes, in which the German side dominated possession, Savic had the first chance of the game for Simeone’s men as he headed a Lodi cross. Gulácsi blocked the ball. Shortly thereafter, Carrasco was close to scoring as his strike was met with a fine save by the keeper. Saúl was brought down inside the box, but the referee decided not to give a penalty. Nagelsmann’s side reacted and improved in the final minutes.
The Germans took the lead five minutes into the second half, but Joao Félix came on shortly thereafter and completely changed the game. In fact, he was brought down inside the box and converted the penalty to equalise the clash. We enjoyed our best minutes and were close to turning things around, but 88 minutes into the game, RB Leipzig scored the second on the break through a deflected shot. We tried to equalise until the end, but ultimately lost 2-1 in Lisbon.
