Carrasco decided the derby
Vibrant and emotional match with the first victory in a derby at the Wanda Metropolitano. Carrasco, on penalty, in the 40th minute, signed the deserved red and white triumph.
Our team took the field at the Wanda Metropolitano in search of a victory that, together with the results of the rivals in search of a Champions League place, could bring the objective closer. The team came out with high pressure and speed when it came to having the ball to create danger. Thus, in the first 10 minutes there were up to three chances to score. In the first minute of play, Kondogbia warned with a shot from outside the area that went over the crossbar. In the 4th minute, Kondogbia himself stole a ball from Kross in the white midfield, advanced and served to Correa who, inside the area, crossed the ball but it went just wide of the right post of Lunin's goal. And, in the 8th minute, Carrasco received a pass from Cunha but his shot, inside the area, was again hit against the right post.
We had to wait until the half-hour mark to see another chance for our team. A foul by Lucas Vázquez on Carrasco was taken by the Belgian and Kondogbia's header went over the crossbar. In the 38th minute, Ancelotti's team had their first shot on goal. Rodrygo shot from outside the area and Oblak saved. In the final stretch, a decisive play in the development of the match would come. Cunha controlled inside the area and was penalized after a foul between Vallejo and Militao. Soto Grado had not signaled anything initially, but Martínez Munuera, from the VAR, alerted him to go to the monitor to see the play and finally signaled a penalty. Carrasco fooled Lunin to make it 1-0 in the 40th minute, a result that would take them to the break because Kross' shot in the 45th minute went wide.
The second half was very intense, with chances at both ends. First it was Griezmann, who had come on for Correa at halftime, who shot over the crossbar from the edge of the area. Then it was Casemiro who tried from outside the area and Oblak saved. In the 60th minute, Carrasco shot high after a pass from Llorente. Shortly after, Griezmann set up Cunha but the Brazilian's shot was saved by Lunin. Valverde forced Oblak to deflect for a corner in the 70th minute. From that moment on, our team went for the second goal, which was narrowly missed. First it was Griezmann who shot just wide of the crossbar. Then, a back-heel from the Frenchman on Cunha who tried a lob from the center circle that almost surprised Lunin. And two more, first from Griezmann grazing the post and then from Carrasco, who hit the right post of the white goal in the 77th minute. Then, in the 87th minute, Oblak deflected for a corner a free kick from the edge of the area launched by Asensio. In the end, the scoreboard would not move any more with victory for our team against Real Madrid. On Wednesday, the next match against Elche in Elche before hosting Sevilla next Sunday at the Wanda Metropolitano.
